2020 Fall Registration CLOSED

Registration closes on Friday, July 24th at midnight.

Cost:  $150 per player

Additional information:

The season is 6 weeks (Aug 8 - Sept 20) plus the State tournament Sept 26/27.

  • 8U & 10U play doubleheaders on Saturdays.
  • 12U-18U play doubleheaders on Sundays.
  • Games are at 12:00 & 1:30 or 3:00 & 4:30 (occasionally, but rarely, games need to be staggered, i.e., 12:00 & 3:00 or 1:30 & 3:00)
  • Schedules are posted by Big West by Wednesday (maybe sooner) of game week
  • Hosting sites for fall ball are limited, so please plan to travel most weeks. We are planning to be a host site for fall ball. This means that for some weekends we can avoid having to drive a distance for away games, but in return we need volunteers to support this. The tasks would be the same for the tournament - field prep, social distancing support, bouncer and possibly concessions.
  • We will require 8 volunteer hours per child. Head coach’s family requirements are waived. We will also be host site for the 16U Nationals the July 23rd-26th. If you are able to help us, these hours will apply toward your fall ball requirement. More information on DIBS, buyouts, etc to come.
  • You have the option to keep your player at the July 2020 level of play or opt to use the standard fall ball determination - which is the level where they will play for 2021 spring/summer.

CPFA is a competitive association and we look to fall fastpitch to help develop and give the opportunity for new players to join and see what the sport is about.  We will do what we can to accommodate player needs but cannot guarantee that it will be possible, based on teams and numbers.

Any parent interested in coaching, please reach out to a board member right away.

Please apply to be a Fall 2020 Fastpitch Coach!

Covid 19 Update

Obviously, there will be some changes in how practices and games will look with the new MDH COVID19 safety protocols. Please take some time to review the Back to the Diamond Safety Guidelines attached below as well as all of the information on the Minnesota Softball site (link below).

2020 Season FAQ

Cancel/Refund Questions

Will I get a full refund if I cancel?

If you have elected for your child not to play the 2020 summer season, you will be issued a refund of your registration fee, minus $45. We were able to hold tryouts and form teams before the pandemic hit. We also purchased uniforms at that time. We can use the pants, socks and belts for future seasons but the uniform tops were personalized with each player’s last name. Therefore, we will be issuing a refund minus the jersey shirt cost of $30. We will be scheduling pick-up times where you will be able to pick up your uniform shirt. The registration site we use, SportsEngine, charges us a fee for each registration we take. We asked them to refund this fee ($15) to us when we knew we were likely going to be issuing at least a few refunds this year and they refused so we are forced to pass that fee on to those that decline to play.

When will I get my refund?

If you have elected to not have your daughter play the 2020 summer season, we will start processing refunds starting the week of June 7th. The registration site we use does not allow us return funds to credit cards 90 days or more after the transaction. Therefore, we will be manually writing and sending refund checks starting the week of June 7th. You will receive an email once all the refunds have been sent out and then you should expect them to arrive via USPS within 3 business days.

What happens with my volunteer check if I cancel?

If you have elected to not have your daughter play the 2020 summer season, we will destroy your volunteer check at the time we process the refund in our system.

Will cancelling this year affect my child’s future with the association negatively?

Absolutely not! We understand that there are families with members who have underlying conditions and there are families with valid concerns about playing. Opting not to play this season will not have a negative effect on future seasons with our association.

It seems like the season is shorter. Will you be offering a partial refund for those that decide to play due to the shortened season?

Right now, the season looks like it will be a full 6 weeks long, followed by the regular qualifier and state tournament. We are starting later but also ending later. Our “normal” season usually has us starting regular season games the first week of May and ending mid-June (6 weeks). Some years we’re able to get out on the field at the beginning of April for 4 weeks of practices. Other years, we have a massive blizzard at the end of April and are not able to practice until one week before games. Ultimately, we are very happy to be having such a long season given the circumstances. Also, please keep in mind that we have added costs of sanitizer and will lose some concessions revenue this year due to the virus, so we will not be giving partial refunds for this year if players choose to play.

COVID19 Questions

What safety steps will you be taking to ensure the safety of the players, coaches and parents?

The CPFA is committed to following the safety protocols laid out by Minnesota Softball and approved by the Minnesota Department of Health. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Social distancing of players in or outside of dugouts and on the field
  • Providing hand sanitizer and inviting the girls to use it often and after touching softballs or shared equipment
  • Providing spray sanitizer for coaches to spray down balls and other shared equipment.
  • Ensuring parents do not stay at practices and providing designated, social distanced seating areas for immediate families for games
  • Strict no touching rule – no high fives!
  • No food (including sunflower seeds) at games or practices

What happens if someone on a team or a coach is diagnosed with the virus?

If a coach or player is diagnosed with the virus during the season the entire team will have to stop playing and practicing for 14 days. The MDH will be notified and will do contact tracing. Please note that if your child’s team ends up missing 2 weeks due to the virus, we will not be offering refunds.

Do the players and coaches have to wear masks?

The MDH strongly recommends that players and coaches wear masks. Some coaches may require masks be worn by all players and coaches at all times. While cloth masks would be very difficult to wear in hot weather, some of the paper-like masks are actually very light and more breathable. Menards was selling such masks for .89 recently so they are available and cheap.

Volunteer Hours/DIBS

Will there still be an expectation for volunteer hours?

Yes. We still expect there to be plenty of volunteer hours available, although some of the jobs and roles may change slightly. As of right now, we are still planning on having at least one home tournament which will require a lot of volunteer hours for concessions (drinks and candy only), field prep, garbage, etc. There will also be new jobs available related to our “new normal” like restocking sanitizer and making sure spectators and players are staying socially distanced. Rest assured that we will have plenty of volunteer hours!

Covid 19 Update

The Minnesota Youth Athletic Services/Gopher State Baseball, Metro Baseball League/Minnesota Baseball Tournaments, and USA Softball Minnesota/Minnesota Softball have joined together to submit a “2020 Back to the Diamond” proposal to the Governor regarding how to safely get our ball players back on the field. The Champlin Park Fastpitch Association is currently awaiting word regarding this proposal. When and if this proposal is approved, we will be ready to begin safely practicing. If you would like more information on this proposal, please see the full press release below.

2020 Spring/Summer Fastpitch League

Thank you for your interest in Champlin Park Fastpitch!

Fastpitch with CPFA is a competitive traveling organization. Games are broken up between home (at Champlin Park High School) and away (in surrounding communities).

Practice is based upon the coach, but many teams will practice two nights per week. There are also weekend tournaments that are determined by team/coach. The Association will hold a player/parent meeting before the season starts so teams can get to know each other and their coaches. In this meeting tournament schedules can be determined.

Try-out process

  • No refunds after team determination - Tryouts were held Sunday, March 1st, 2020 and teams have been posted on the Teams tab here on the site.
  • Closed try-outs (parents cannot watch)
  • Coaches observe try-outs, but do not evaluate
  • Evaluators are independent volunteers

  • We will begin practices as soon as we can get on the fields (usually mid-April)
  • Games begin early May (coaches will provide exact schedules)
    • Expect one game/week while school is in session and two games/week at the end of the season once school is out of session
    • Games are double headers beginning at 6:15
    • You will have to travel to games in other communities within our Northwest region
  • Practices are at the coach’s discretion, but usually twice per week
  • Tournaments
    • The Association fees include registration entries into our home tournament, one tournament at your coach’s discretion, State qualifiers, and the State tournament.
    • Your coach may choose to register for additional tournaments. The team covers these fees. Higher-level teams typically enter an additional 3-5 tournaments; the lower teams do fewer. The individual fees depend on how many players are on the team and how much each tournament costs.

Volunteer hours

  • We are a volunteer-based organization and rely on families doing volunteer hours to manage our fields, concessions, and our tournament
  • We will offer an option to “buy out” of your volunteer obligation
  • We will have more information on this at the player-parent meeting

  • We do have a mandatory fundraiser that funds field improvements, new training equipment, and to help control registration fees

If your daughter is interested in playing with us this spring/summer but did not register/tryout in time, please contact Jamie Drugg at If we have room on a team, we may be able to make an exception for your child, but ONLY if it would not be detrimental to the current team structure.

Please see the Player Development and Registration tabs for clinics and other training and development opportunities for your child.
