Fastpitch with Champlin Park Fastpitch Association is a competitive traveling organization. Games are broken up between home (at Champlin Park High School) and away (in surrounding communities). Practice is based upon the coach, but many teams will practice two nights per week. There are also weekend tournaments that are determined by team/coach. Due to the effects of Covid-19 and the MN Stay at Home order, our original summer season was cancelled, but we have worked with other associations to get the girls on the field as soon as we were approved for play by the Minnesota Department of Health and the State of Minnesota.
Each family is required to complete volunteer hours to help with our tournament and season games. This helps us keep registration costs down. We will announce details at a later date.
Organization Options: 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U
$100 - 8U players that have already received a uniform top from the summer season that was cancelled
$150 - 8U for players still needing the uniform top
$200 - 10U to 16U players that have already received a uniform top from the summer season that was cancelled
$250 - 10U to 16U players still needing the uniform top
Each level will be tiered by skill level determined at previous tryouts and by coaches' and board's past experience with players.
Deadline to register is Thursday, June 25th at 11:59 PM.
There will be NO refunds of registration fees once the schedule is posted.
This registration will require you to provide contact information, sign consents, and submit payment. You will be required to attach a copy of your child's birth certificate to register.
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) approved Minnesota Softball’s plan to start games. The State of Minnesota approved games to begin June 24th, 2020. We are excited to offer a 4 week July season in addition to tournaments to give the girls an opportunity to play this summer!
Obviously, there will be some changes in how practices and games will look with the new MDH COVID19 safety protocols. Please take some time to review the Back to the Diamond Safety Guidelines attached below as well as all of the information on the Minnesota Softball site (link below).
Will I get a full refund if I cancel?
If you have elected for your child not to play the 2020 summer season, you will be issued a refund of your registration fee, minus $45. We were able to hold tryouts and form teams before the pandemic hit. We also purchased uniforms at that time. We can use the pants, socks and belts for future seasons but the uniform tops were personalized with each player’s last name. Therefore, we will be issuing a refund minus the jersey shirt cost of $30. We will be scheduling pick-up times where you will be able to pick up your uniform shirt. The registration site we use, SportsEngine, charges us a fee for each registration we take. We asked them to refund this fee ($15) to us when we knew we were likely going to be issuing at least a few refunds this year and they refused so we are forced to pass that fee on to those that decline to play.
When will I get my refund?
If you have elected to not have your daughter play the 2020 summer season, we will start processing refunds starting the week of June 7th. The registration site we use does not allow us return funds to credit cards 90 days or more after the transaction. Therefore, we will be manually writing and sending refund checks starting the week of June 7th. You will receive an email once all the refunds have been sent out and then you should expect them to arrive via USPS within 3 business days.
What happens with my volunteer check if I cancel?
If you have elected to not have your daughter play the 2020 summer season, we will destroy your volunteer check at the time we process the refund in our system.
Will cancelling this year affect my child’s future with the association negatively?
Absolutely not! We understand that there are families with members who have underlying conditions and there are families with valid concerns about playing. Opting not to play this season will not have a negative effect on future seasons with our association.
It seems like the season is shorter. Will you be offering a partial refund for those that decide to play due to the shortened season?
Right now, the season looks like it will be a full 6 weeks long, followed by the regular qualifier and state tournament. We are starting later but also ending later. Our “normal” season usually has us starting regular season games the first week of May and ending mid-June (6 weeks). Some years we’re able to get out on the field at the beginning of April for 4 weeks of practices. Other years, we have a massive blizzard at the end of April and are not able to practice until one week before games. Ultimately, we are very happy to be having such a long season given the circumstances. Also, please keep in mind that we have added costs of sanitizer and will lose some concessions revenue this year due to the virus, so we will not be giving partial refunds for this year if players choose to play.
What safety steps will you be taking to ensure the safety of the players, coaches and parents?
The CPFA is committed to following the safety protocols laid out by Minnesota Softball and approved by the Minnesota Department of Health. These include, but are not limited to:
To view the full MDH and Minnesota Softball guidelines click here.
What happens if someone on a team or a coach is diagnosed with the virus?
If a coach or player is diagnosed with the virus during the season the entire team will have to stop playing and practicing for 14 days. The MDH will be notified and will do contact tracing. Please note that if your child’s team ends up missing 2 weeks due to the virus, we will not be offering refunds.
Do the players and coaches have to wear masks?
The MDH strongly recommends that players and coaches wear masks. Some coaches may require masks be worn by all players and coaches at all times. While cloth masks would be very difficult to wear in hot weather, some of the paper-like masks are actually very light and more breathable. Menards was selling such masks for .89 recently so they are available and cheap.
Will there still be an expectation for volunteer hours?
Yes. We still expect there to be plenty of volunteer hours available, although some of the jobs and roles may change slightly. As of right now, we are still planning on having at least one home tournament which will require a lot of volunteer hours for concessions (drinks and candy only), field prep, garbage, etc. There will also be new jobs available related to our “new normal” like restocking sanitizer and making sure spectators and players are staying socially distanced. Rest assured that we will have plenty of volunteer hours!
The Minnesota Youth Athletic Services/Gopher State Baseball, Metro Baseball League/Minnesota Baseball Tournaments, and USA Softball Minnesota/Minnesota Softball have joined together to submit a “2020 Back to the Diamond” proposal to the Governor regarding how to safely get our ball players back on the field. The Champlin Park Fastpitch Association is currently awaiting word regarding this proposal. When and if this proposal is approved, we will be ready to begin safely practicing. If you would like more information on this proposal, please see the full press release below.

Practice is based upon the coach, but many teams will practice two nights per week. There are also weekend tournaments that are determined by team/coach. The Association will hold a player/parent meeting before the season starts so teams can get to know each other and their coaches. In this meeting tournament schedules can be determined.
Fees – while we have our registration fees, some teams opt for some of the extras noted below
If your daughter is interested in playing with us this spring/summer but did not register/tryout in time, please contact Jamie Drugg at email@example.com. If we have room on a team, we may be able to make an exception for your child, but ONLY if it would not be detrimental to the current team structure.
